This document provides information about installing ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2 Patch 01 using either the Patch Manager ultility or a silent installation.

Preparing to Install the Patch

It is important to prepare your system for patch installation before running the Patch Manager utility or installing silently.

Important

Product Compatibility: If you installed ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2, then installed any Wonderware products that were released prior to the release of ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2, you might be requested to supply the DVD or a network location of the ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2 software in order to install the patch.

.NET Framework: Neither ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2 nor ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2 P01 support .NET Framework 4.5. ArchestrA System Platform products might not function correctly if .NET 4.5 is installed on your system. Unless a product explicitly states that it supports .NET 4.5, it also might exhibit problems.

Custom Branding: The IDE watermark image file will be overwritten during the installation of ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2 Patch 01. If you have created a custom branding image file, back it up so you can restore it later. The image file, typically a .png such as "IDEWatermark.png" can be found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArchestrA\ApplicationServer\3.6.000\Branding.

Patch Conditions

Ensure that your system meets the following conditions for installing the patch:

  • Installation - ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2 must be installed before installing this patch. If you have older versions of the products, they must first be upgraded to ArchestrA System Platform 2012 R2.
  • UAC - Disable UAC before installing Wonderware Application Server 2012 R2 applicable for Windows Vista and above operating systems.
  • Coexistence - If Wonderware Application Server and the InTouch HMI are installed on the same node, they both must be upgraded to Application Server 2012 R2 Patch 01 and InTouch HMI 2012 R2 Patch 01, respectively.

Before You Start

Close any anti-virus programs running on the computer before you update Wonderware Application Server with Patch 01.

Apply this patch to Application Server 2012 R2, including InTouch 10.6 (all languages), Application Server 3.6, Historian 11.0, and Wonderware Information Server 5.0. You can verify the version number under Wonderware in Windows Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features, depending on your operating system.

NOTE: The Wonderware Information Server (WIS) version number shown in Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features, depending on your operating system, will not change after installing Patch 01.

The patch does not change any core WIS components, but only modifies a WIS add-on component. To confirm that the add on has been updated, check that the file version of \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArchestrA\InformationModel\Bin\IMS.Server.Configurator.dll has been updated from 143.3.0.0 to 144.0.0.0.

Before Installing the InTouch 10.6 Patch 01 and Application Server 3.6 Patch 01:

  • Before installing the patch, ensure you have created known good backups of all installed Galaxies and InTouch applications. To create a backup of your Galaxy, access the Galaxy Database Manager in the System Management (SMC) console. Expand the Galaxy Database Manager and select the Galaxy. On the Action menu, click Backup. Follow the prompts to complete the backup operation for each Galaxy.
  • If the ArchestrA IDE connects remotely to the Galaxy Repository on another computer, apply Patch 01 to both nodes. A remote connection between the ArchestrA IDE and the Galaxy Repository fails if the nodes are at different versions of Wonderware Application Server.

  • NOTE: An ArchestrA IDE node still at version 3.6 cannot connect to a remote GR node updated with Patch 01.
  • Before running the patch installer, undeploy the platform or stop the platform from Platform Manager in the SMC. Exit all running applications including the ArchestrA IDE, InTouch WindowMaker, InTouch WindowViewer, ArchestrA Log Viewer, and the System Management Console.
  • Before applying Patch 01 on the GR node, disconnect any active remote IDE sessions. Patch 01 requires ArchestrA-related processes to be shut down. The patch installation may require a reboot.

Before Installing the Historian 11.0 Patch 01:

  • Shut down and disable the Historian.
  • Close the System Management Console (SMC) if it is running.
