Upgrading from previous versions of WEI

Previous versions of WEI (i.e. WEI 2.0 and WEI 2.1SP1) have been made specifically for the use with Wonderware Equipment Operations Module/Equipment Performance Module.
An upgrade to the latest version of WEI requires a detailed analysis of the existing solution and might require reengineering the approach taken. An automated migration tool is not provided.

Known Issues in Wonderware Enterprise Integrator

Known Issue with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

When Wonderware Enterprise Integrator (WEI) 3.5 is installed on a system with Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 or Microsoft Office SharePoint System (MOSS) 2007 the navigation menu at the top of the WEI configuration and management website will be disabled and not visible.

To work around this issue a change can be made to the web.config file configuration for the default Internet Information Server (IIS) website. Before making this change to a production server, this change should be tested on a test server with the production SharePoint configuration to ensure that the change does not effect any custom SharePoint applications or feature.

·          Step 1: Locate the web.config file located in the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot folder on the server. Then make a backup copy of the file.

·          Step 2: Open the web.config in an editor that can edit an xml file.

·          Step 3: Locate the xml node that contains <siteMap defaultProvider="SPSiteMapProvider" enabled="true"> that is located under the <system.web> node. Remove the defaultProvider element such that the node now contains <siteMap enabled="true">.

·          Step4: Save the edited web.config file.

·          Step 5: Open a Command Prompt, type in iisreset and hit enter. Once Internet Information Server (IIS) has restarted, may take a few minutes, open Internet Explorer and browse to the WEI configuration and management website http://localhost/WEI/Default.aspx.

·          Step 6: Browse to all other SharePoint and or websites to ensure all applications are still functioning as expected.

Known Issues with WEI 3.5 Configurator Interface

Issue 1: If the WEI management website or the WEI messaging services is manually removed the Configurator will not recognize this and the 'Repair' button will not be enabled enable.

To work around this issue, reinstall WEI 3.5.

Issue 2: It is possible to create a service with a name containing symbols that are not supported by Windows.

Invalid input with system character pass through the creation stage but the service cannot be started by the Configuration and Management Console.

To work around this issue, the service will have to be deleted using the Configurator and re-created using a valid name.

Issue 3: If a user attempts to delete a service, using the Configurator, which still has Message Locations associated to it, an empty message box will be displayed.

The service will not be deleted from the database but will be removed from Windows.

Known Issue with WEI 3.5 Message Service

Issue 1: If a 'read-only' file is dropped to a file folder or share (a message location of type 'folder') the system will not read it in.

The system will not provide an error message or indication.
