Key Features

Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 offers a number of features and activities that help business users create simple and process driven composite applications rapidly. Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 has a robust and out-of-the-box connectivity to various enterprise systems and also provides an informative BAM to improve collaboration.

Central Configuration

The Wonderware Skelta BPM Central Configuration site enables you to do a host of activities from a single page such as create and manage repositories, configure settings for repositories and data source, manage users and their licenses.

  • A new feature in the Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 version named Manage Access Token Configurations is now listed in the Wonderware Skelta BPM Central Configuration site. Use this feature to register the workflow engine service as a client in the ArchestrA Security Token Service (ASTS) server, using the View /Register Application option. For more information about ASTS, see the Working with ArchestrA Security Token Service section in the Wonderware Skelta BPM Administrator Guide.
  • While creating a Wonderware Skelta BPM Repository, you can now authenticate an active directory user through active directory attributes other than the SAM-Account-Name user. Two new fields are introduced, User Log-on ID field and User Log-on Display Name, to enter the desired active directory attribute details if you want to use active directory attributes other than the SAM-Account-Name user. For more information about creating a Wonderware Skelta BPM Repository, see the installation section in the Wonderware Skelta BPM Administrator Guide.

Enterprise Console

The Enterprise Console menu lists all the commands or options available for a specific user based on their roles and responsibilities. This list of options available in this menu is defined by the Administrator.

  • Set an alternate actor for a user, using the newly introduced Alternate Actor menu item in the Enterprise Console menu. The newly introduced Alternate Actor menu item is available in the Settings tab of the Enterprise Console menu. By default, this Alternate Actor menu item is visible to users assigned to Administrator and Contributor Security groups.
  • When you upgrade to Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 or higher, the Menu Order number for the user created links will be set by the system automatically. You can change the Menu Order number, if required, using the Navigation list item in the Enterprise Console menu. In case of links with the same Menu Order number, the first saved link takes precedence and appears before the other links with the same Menu Order number.
  • Configure number of records to export in BAM reports using one of the following options:
    • Export Settings icon: To set the number of records to export for a particular grid for a particular instance.
    • Number of records to export: To set the number of records to export in a grid. You can find this option in the editor zone of the Reports page. This setting is applicable for all grids in the Report page for any instance.
  • Use the Delete Schedule button to delete a BAM schedule. Then the BAM schedule is deleted, and the respective database entries are removed.

The Delete Schedule button is added to the Basic Configuration tab of the BAM Configuration window. To open the BAM configuration window, you can either right-click on any workflow, and click BAM Configuration, or go to the Process Designer, click Settings, and then click BAM Configuration.
  • You can now synchronize roles for cross domain role provider using the Synchronize Roles list item introduced to the Enterprise Console menu. Use this menu item to synchronize roles while upgrading an existing Wonderware Skelta BPM repository with cross domain role provider.
  • Create an ArchestrA Events List Item using the ArchestrA Events menu item in the Tools tab of the Enterprise Console menu. You can use this ArchestrA Events List Item to store ArchestrA Event Type and the relevant context data properties associated with the event type.

Web API Authentication with ArchestrA Security Token Service

The Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 introduces the ArchestrA Security Token Service (ASTS) access token feature to authenticate a Web API. You can use the ASTS access token to configure and restrict the access to a Web API.

When you create a Web API enabled with ASTS access token authentication, then a Web API request is executed successfully only if the access token is valid. The Web API authenticated by the access token is invoked through the Invoke Web API Activity.

For more information about ASTS authentication in Wonderware Skelta BPM, see Wonderware Skelta BPM Administrator Guide > Working with ArchestrA Security Token Service.

Workflow Association with ArchestrA Events

From Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 release onwards, you can create a workflow association with ArchestrA Event. While creating such an association, events can be consumed from event providers of InBatch or Recipe Manager. Wonderware Skelta BPM periodically polls for events from the ArchestrA Service Bus (ASB) to receive events. Based on the set filter conditions, the events are retrieved, and a Wonderware Skelta BPM workflow is initiated. The event data can be used in a workflow through an XML variable.

A new list item, ArchestrA Event is added to Enterprise Console menu > Tools. You can use this ArchestrA Events list item as the ArchestraA Event master list to filter the events parameters.

Forms

User interface and user experience are the most important aspects of business applications. Forms help you to create complex user interfaces with responsive design, adaptive layout, and cross-browser compatibility. Forms integrate with lists and workflows to enable rapid deployment of business applications.

Wonderware Skelta BPM Forms is a powerful platform to design and use sophisticated forms in your enterprise. The forms platform uses the latest .NET framework, and is developed using HTML5, CSS3, and Knockout JavaScript for a rich and responsive user experience. You can automatically construct software solutions from high-level domain-specific specifications, connect to forms with various Web APIs and through the Azure cloud platform, and deliver secure content with authentication and authorization.

Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 uses HTML5 based forms where as Skelta BPM.Net 2011 uses ASP.NET based forms. However, when you upgrade from Skelta BPM.Net 2011 to Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1, you can use both types of forms.

Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 enhanced Forms and improved performance.

  • Enhanced Data Grid control and improved performance with:
    • Select First Record property, which takes precedence over the script to select a record in the On Data Bound event.
    • Replaced Refresh On Parameter Change property with Auto-load Grid property.
    • Populate options of a data bound control (options binding) using a lookup through a Data Grid control set as data source.
  • Enhanced Pop-up control by supporting Forms Parameters.
  • Changed default tab order for Panel Form control from Horizontal to Vertical.
  • Enhanced Panel Form control to confirm when decreasing the number of columns as that action will delete that many last columns with all its controls.
  • Added property to control spacing between label and control with Label-Control Area property.
  • Updated Custom Control infrastructure. Custom controls created in Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 and Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 must be modified according to the new guidelines to work with Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1.
  • Improved customization of business applications by adding new Forms APIs.
  • Replaced control.getAllImmediateChildControls() Forms API with control.findImmediateChildRecordControlById(), control.findImmediateChildRecordControlByName(), and control.findImmediateChildRecordControlByXmlNode() Forms APIs.
  • Enhanced error messages for debugging errors in scripts.
  • Optimized memory usage to improve overall Forms performance.

Packages

Deploying artifacts from one environment or repository to another is critical for business uniformity and standardization. Packages help you to deploy artifacts, associated and child artifacts, configuration states, and containment states easily with package templates.

Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 enhances the user interface of packages and enables you to:

  • Package all the dependent files of the following artifacts:
    • SOA Assembly
    • Forms controls
    • Navigation Links
    • Queue with Custom Dispatch Pattern
    • Script Activity
  • Install all the dependent files through a single package installation in a client server distributed environment.

Connectors and Extensions

Integrating with enterprise applications and solution platforms is critical for optimizing existing business investments. Connectors and Extensions help you to integrate Wonderware Skelta BPM with other Wonderware and Microsoft products for extending BPM features to enterprise solutions.

Integrate with connectors and extensions for:

  • Wonderware System Platform 2014 R2
  • Wonderware Information Server
  • OPC UA
  • Microsoft SharePoint 2013
  • Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2013

Issues Resolved

This section describes important resolved issues in the Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2 SP1 release:

  • The display time such as, Started On, Updated On, or Last Activity, of the workflows in Reports is inconsistent. The Report displays UTC on the workflow whereas the activity details are in local time. This behavior is sometimes interchanged. In BAM Reports - StartedOn and Updated On, time values display format is not consistent. The initial display is in UTC format, and after refreshing the window, the format is changed to local time format.
  • Submitting an inbox workitem from the workitem detailed view in modal window does not proceed to the next work item when the Inbox properties are enabled for both Enable Move to the next workitem after submitting the workitem from the detailed view and Show Detail View As Modal.
  • In Internet Explorer 11, while working with List, you might face trouble using the Action bar options such as Design, Edit, View, or Change Owner. For example, while editing a List Item using the Edit option from the Action bar, you can enter only a single character in the Edit List dialog box.
  • License error after upgrading Wonderware Skelta BPM client from Skelta BPM.NET 2011 SP4 to Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 R2.
  • In Decision Activity, while adding a rule with multiple rule with different outputs, the values in the Output and Stop Processing fields was getting cleared.
  • The indentation issue of converting multiple lines to a single line in the Expression Editor when an object is dragged and dropped from the Object tree in the editor window.
  • In Forms, when a Data Grid control is refreshed using the control.refreshGrid() API, memory leak is observed.

  • When a Base Form with the Default Number of Records set in a form, associated to a workflow with an Invoke Form Activity to the same form, is used in Fill Form, and if all records for the Base Form are deleted while submitting the Fill Form, then, in the Invoke Form Activity, the Base Form will continue to display the Default Number of Records.
  • When you localize text containing $ character, it will not be localized as expected.
