Upgrading to Skelta BPM 2017 R2

Run the Skelta BPM 2017 R2 installer to upgrade from the earlier version.

Upgrade Scenarios

  • Major upgrade from Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 (any version) to Skelta BPM 2017 R2
  • Major upgrade from Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 to Wonderware Skelta BPM 2017 and then minor upgrade to Skelta BPM 2017 R2

For more information on the upgrade steps, see Upgrading to Wonderware Skelta BPM 2017.

  • Minor upgrade from Wonderware Skelta BPM 2017 to Skelta BPM 2017 R2

Upgrading to Skelta BPM 2017 R2

The upgrade will overwrite all files. Ensure to back up all the files you require before the upgrade.

While upgrading Skelta BPM Websites, the existing files in all the Enterprise Console site folders are overwritten with the latest files. However, before overwriting, the installer takes a backup of the Actions.xml and SharePointActions.xml files, and the files are saved with .bak extension in the same folder. The Actions.xml and SharePointActions.xml files are available in the following path of Skelta BPM installation:

..\WorkflowElements\Default\en-US\Actions\XML

We recommend you to back up the existing files and folders of the previous installation.

When you upgrade to Skelta BPM 2017 R2, the installer executable file internally uninstall the previous product installation. The default location to install Skelta BPM 2017 R2 files is C:\Program Files\Wonderware\Skelta BPM. If the previous version Wonderware Skelta BPM is installed in a custom path, then Skelta BPM 2017 R2 will be installed on the same custom path.

  1. Download Skelta BPM 2017 R2 executable and "ISSetupPrerequisites" folder from the Wonderware Skelta BPM download site.

The .NET Framework version is 4.7.1 and SE Licensing version is 3.3. Once the framework is upgraded to 4.7.1, the machine gets restarted.

  2. Run the Skelta BPM installer based on the operating system.
    • To install on a 32-bit computer, run SK-BPM2017R2-x86.exe
    • To install on a 64-bit computer, run SK-BPM2017R2-x64.exe

A confirmation message to start the upgrade appears.

  3. Click Yes.

The installer splash screen, and then the Related product found dialog box appears.

  4. Click Next.

The Ready to Install the Program dialog box appears.

  5. Click Install to begin the installation.
  6. On the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box, click Finish.

Upgrade Manager automatically performs the following tasks:

    • Stops the Wonderware Skelta BPM services and Application Pools.
    • Deletes the SkeltaBPMTemp and BPM Cache files from the computer

The Upgrade Manager Wizard appears after the above tasks are completed. For the steps to run the upgrade manager, see Running the Upgrade Manager.

Notes:
- Perform the above tasks manually, if the Upgrade Manager fails to automatically complete any of these tasks. After the upgrade is successfully completed, the Skelta BPM services and Application Pools will start automatically. Ensure the user has Administrative privilege and sufficient rights to delete files from the temporary folders.

- If the Application Pool stops, then you have to manually start the Application Pool service.

- If the images do not appear properly in the upgraded Enterprise Console menu, ensure to update the images from the Navigation Details list.

a. Point to admin, and then click Repository Settings. The Repository Settings page appears.

b. Go to Advanced Settings, click Manage Navigation List. The Manage List appears.

c. Edit the ImageName in the NavigationLink Details window of the required Navigation Link item.

- In an IPV6 enabled environment upgrade, set the IPV6 multi-cast IP to enable Enterprise Server functionality.

- If you are upgrading Wonderware Skelta BPM 2014 (any versions) on a server, which does not have Wonderware Skelta BPM - Advance Server Service, then this service will be available on the server after the upgrade is completed successfully.

Issues Resolved

The following are the important issues resolved in the Skelta BPM 2017 R2 release:

Forms

  • Displaying localized values in a localized environment
  • The Invoke Workflow control triggered from Embed Form does not trigger the workflow.
  • The On Data Bound event of a Data Grid control is triggered before the On Form Load event is completed.
  • In the Invoke Workflow control, the updates to the form controls by the Pre-Workflow Execution script are not considered while triggering the workflow.
  • Unable to submit a form containing the Date Input control in a localized web application.
  • When the values are selected in a Data Grid with the Extended Information property set to Yes and Configuration Name property, configured with a source containing Date/Time column, the extendedInformation is not populated in the scripts for the control.
  • When passing contextual information to Forms from InTouch, the Form does not load in the InTouch Fill Form Graphics control.
  • A role (having multiple users) is assigned to an Invoke Form activity with the Template Path and Send Notification Email properties configured and any one user can complete the activity. When the workitem is already acted upon and the user tries to open the workitem, it displays the form. However, while submitting the form, an error message is displayed without any relevant details.
  • The Date Time display values are not considered as per the format specified in the control.
  • When you trigger an Invoke Workflow control configured with an XML Schema as form, it throws an error. This issue occurs in a form, which contains a Pop Up control configured to a non-existent form.
  • When an Invoke Workflow control, which has the XML Schema configured to form, is triggered from an Embed Form control, the workflow does not get triggered.
  • When a Form is associated with a synchronous workflow having Invoke Form activity with Redirect URL and Custom Document View URL properties set, then an error appears in the Invoke Form Activity page after fill form has been performed.
  • When a data grid control with Behavior as Data Source and Execution Mode as Asynchronous is configured to a parameterized data source, then the data fetched from the source is synchronous, instead of asynchronous.
  • If the persisted column has Date and DateTime value, the SFU.getGridValue() API and the script having scriptable value as selectedValue and extendedInformation for data grid returns String values.

Note: As a result of this issue resolution, Date and DateTime values in the above APIs return DateTime object. It is recommended to revalidate the scripts for the Date and DateTime column values, which are referenced from these APIs. This is applicable when the property Persist culture-specific values is set to No for the Data Grid control.

Continuous Improvements

  • In the Database Activity, whenever a Stored Procedure, which does not return any records, is executed, an unsuccessful output is triggered, even though the stored procedure is executed successfully.
  • When you configure and save the Repeat Task option with duration as Hours in the Basic Configuration tab of BAM Configuration, the Basic Configuration tab section crashes if you navigate to other tabs and then click the Basic Configuration tab.
  • If there are no pending workflows to be displayed in the Overdue Analysis section of the BAM report, then:
    • The Divide by zero error is displayed in the WWSKLogger Console.
    • An exception email is sent to the user based on the Exception Email configuration
  • The Performance analysis configured for the workflows are not displayed in the tree structure of the BAM control. This issue occurs even though the BAM Tree Menu Rights to view the Performance in the BAM tree structure have been assigned to/modified for a Security group.
  • Unable to set the KPI as a Dashboard, even though the KPI rights have been assigned to/modified for a Security group in the BAM Tree Menu Rights section.
  • The AttributeReadWrite activity is completed and the output is displayed as Attribute Write Success, though the attribute is in “Bad” quality or the object is undeployed.

Packages

  • If a package containing custom files is installed, uninstalled and installed repeatedly, then Wonderware Skelta BPM Client Service crashes.
  • If a Form used in the Pop-up control is already present in the target environment, the parent Form is not installed in Published mode. The below error message appears:

"Forms Item will be installed as draft as associated artifact is not present.

Note: In the above scenario, if the associated form version is not present in the target environment, then the parent form will be mapped to the available latest version.

  • If the Name property of a Form is blank and the form is used in an Embed Form control, then the following error message appears while adding the parent Form:

"Error while identifying embedded form as an associated artifact. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
