Upgrading to Workflow Management 2019

Upgrading Scenarios

  • You can upgrade to Workflow Management 2019 from any of the following version:
    • Wonderware Skelta BPM 2017 R2
    • Wonderware Skelta BPM 2017 R2 U1
    • Wonderware Skelta BPM 2017 R2 U2

Upgrading to Workflow Management 2019

The upgrade will internally remove all the old files. Ensure to back up all the files you require before the upgrade.

While upgrading Wonderware Skelta BPM Websites, the existing files in all the Enterprise Console site folders are overwritten with the latest files. However, before overwriting, the installer takes a backup of the Actions.xml and SharePointActions.xml files, and the files are saved with .bak extension in the same folder. The Actions.xml and SharePointActions.xml files are available in the following path of Wonderware Skelta BPM installation:

..\WorkflowElements\Default\en-US\Actions\XML

We recommend you to back up the existing files and folders of the previous installation.

If the Workflow Management Farm is configured, then the CentralConfig.xml file is retained in the old Wonderware Skelta BPM install folder with a .bak suffix. All files and folders in the following folders of Wonderware Skelta BPM will be moved to the BPM2017_Backup folder under the old Wonderware Skelta BPM install folder.

  • Locales
  • Web
  • WorkflowElements

If you have customized any page in these folders, compare the pages with the existing pages, and then merge the changes. You must not replace the pages.

Note:
- While upgrading to Workflow Management 2019, if the installer finds unsupported Forms 2011 versions, the setup exits even before installing the prerequisites.

- Before running the Workflow Management 2019 installer, run the Workflow Management 2019 Forms 2011 Removal Tool.exe to remove unsupported Forms 2011 from all repositories.

- Ensure to copy the Workflow Management 2019 Forms 2011 Removal Tool.exe in <Workflow Management 2019 install path>\Bin and then run the tool. The tool is available in the Workflow Management 2019 - Forms 2011 Removal Tool folder after you extract the ISO file of Workflow Management 2019.

- Before running the tool, make sure the database connectivity is available for the existing DataSources, otherwise the tool will not launch.

- When Forms 2011 is used in Invoke Form Activity or is associated with a workflow, and if Forms 2011 is removed, then the existing workflow instances will give the message "Form not found".

- When a workflow has Invoke Form Activity with Forms 2011and if Forms 2011 is removed, edit the workflow to select the new form in Invoke Form Activity and then execute the workflow.

When you upgrade to Workflow Management 2019, the installer executable file internally uninstalls the previous product installation. The default location to install Workflow Management 2019 files is C:\Program Files\Wonderware\Workflow Management. If the previous version of Wonderware Skelta BPM is installed in a custom path, then the Workflow Management 2019 will be installed on the same custom path.

Note: While upgrading to Workflow Management 2019 from the earlier versions, the installer gives an alert message, "The installation process slows down when the installer backs up the Locales, Web, and WorkflowElements folders. Do you want the installer to take the backup?"

- If you select Yes, the installer takes the backup and the installation process slows down.
- If you select No, the installation process proceeds without taking the backup.
- If no action is performed, the installer will wait for 20 seconds and the installation process proceeds without taking the backup.

Steps to Upgrade

  1. Extract the ISO file of Workflow Management 2019.
  2. Copy Workflow Management 2019 executable and "ISSetupPrerequisites" folder from the Workflow Management 2019 folder.
  3. Run Workflow Management 2019.exe on a 64-bit computer to upgrade to Workflow Management 2019.
    1. If unsupported Forms 2011 versions are found, the installer exits. Before you run the installer again,
      • Copy the Workflow Management 2019 Forms 2011 Removal Tool.exe in <Workflow Management 2019 install path>\Bin. The tool is available in the Workflow Management 2019 - Forms 2011 Removal Tool folder after you extract the ISO file of Workflow Management 2019.
      • Run the tool to remove the unsupported Forms 2011 versions.
    2. If unsupported Forms 2011 versions are not found,

An alert message "The installation process slows down when the installer backs up the Locales, Web, and WorkflowElements folders. Do you want the installer to take the backup?" appears.

  4. Click Yes if you want the installer to take the backup. Click No if you do not want the installer to take the backup.
  5. The installer splash screen, and then the Related product found dialog box appears.
  6. Click Next.

The Ready to Install the Program dialog box appears.

  7. Click Install to begin the installation.
  8. On the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box, click Finish.

Upgrade Manager automatically performs the following tasks:

    • Stops the services and Application Pools.
    • Deletes the SkeltaBPMTemp and BPM Cache files from the computer.

The Upgrade Manager Wizard appears after the above tasks are completed. For the steps to run the upgrade manager, see Running the Upgrade Manager.

Notes:
- Perform the above tasks manually, if the Upgrade Manager fails to automatically complete any of these tasks. After the upgrade is successfully completed, the Workflow Management services and Application Pools will start automatically. Ensure the user has Administrative privilege and the rights to delete files from the temporary folders.

- If the images do not appear properly in the upgraded Enterprise Console menu, ensure to update the images from the Navigation Details list.

a. Point to admin, and then click Repository Settings. The Repository Settings page appears.

b. Go to Advanced Settings, click Manage Navigation List. The Manage List appears.

c. Edit the ImageName in the NavigationLink Details window of the required Navigation Link item.

- In an IPV6 enabled environment upgrade, set the IPV6 multi-cast IP to enable Enterprise Server functionality.
